Caravan insurance guide

Off-Road Caravan Insurance

An off-road build does not automatically mean an insurance policy covers every track, terrain or recovery cost.

Road and Terrain Definitions

Policy wording may distinguish between different roads, tracks, beaches and other terrain, and the conditions for off-road use can vary between providers. A caravan marketed as off-road capable does not override the insurance policy. Check intended destinations against the provider's policy definitions and exclusions.

Recovery, Towing and Remote Travel

Towing and recovery after an insured event may have different conditions, limits or restrictions. Ask whether recovery or extraction is covered, what limits apply and whether distance or access restrictions affect the benefit.

Modifications and Accessories

Non-standard modifications and accessories may affect eligibility, premium, insured value or cover. Check whether the insurer needs to be told about them and whether they are included in the insured value or subject to separate limits.

Questions to Ask

  • Which unsealed roads and tracks are accepted?
  • Are water crossings, beaches or remote areas excluded?
  • Is accidental damage below the chassis covered?
  • Are recovery and extraction treated differently?
  • What security or storage conditions apply away from home?
